Carrick Rovers 4-1 Cavan Shamrocks
On Sunday 23th February, Cavan Shamrocks were the visitors to the Ballybay Road. Carrick started well and looked the better side early on. However they could not find a way past the Shamrocks keeper who made a number of good saves. The Rovers continued to press and midway through the first-half, Nathan opened the scoring from close range. Shamrock's were defending well and were still in the game approaching the break.
For the Rovers, Luke was solid in the net's, with good cover coming from Keith, Conor and Andrew at the back ensuring a clean sheet at half-time. Flynn, Pavel, Nathan and Zach were winning the midfield battle while Oran looked sharp up front. Conor and Dylan were introduced as the home team chased a second goal.
Half-time: Carrick Rovers 1-0 Cavan Shamrock's
After the break the Rover's upped the tempo and the Shamrock's were working hard to keep them out. Niall was introduced and 8 minutes into the half the home team doubled their lead when Keith found Oran down the right, who put in a great cross and Conor poked it home. It was soon 3-0 when Nathan got his second of the match. Mark came on as the Shamrock's were starting to look dangerous. They got their reward when the home side failed to clear a cross, which was finished well giving Luke no chance. 2 minutes later Niall was fouled on the edge of the box and Flynn got his name on the scoresheet placing the free-kick in the top corner. Both team's missed chances before the ref blew for full time. Carrick now face a crucial match against Cootehill who beat them 3-1 earlier in the season.
