11's on top against league leaders

Carrick Rovers 3-2 Cavan Celtic
CMUL 11

On Sunday 16th February, the 11s played the league leaders on the Ballybay Road in a very entertaining and exciting match. The game kicked off at 12 and the home side got at Cavan right from the start. Cormac, Pavel, Nathan and Zach were controlling the midfield battle, while Flynn looked dangerous up front. 7 minutes in, the Rovers deservedly took the lead. Cormac and Flynn combined well down the wing, resulting in a dangerous cross which went in off a Cavan defender. 3 minutes later the same two players were causing havoc again, this time Zach got on the end of the cross to put the Rovers 2-0 up.

From the restart Cavan upped the tempo and were starting to cause a few problem's for the home team. Cavan were now pressing but Luke, Keith, Conor and Andrew all played their part in keeping Cavan out. Cavan finally got their reward when Carrick failed to clear in the area and Cavan made it 2-1 from close range. Oran, Dylan and Conor were now in the game and the Rovers were on top again. With 3 minutes remaining until half-time Oran made it 3-1 with another good finish low to the keepers right, to restore the Rovers 2 goal cushion. The Rovers fully deserved their lead at half time, with their movement and work-rate causing the opposition all sorts of problems.

Half-time: Carrick Rovers 3-1 Cavan Celtic

The second half kicked off, with the visitors now showing why they are top of the table. The early stages were fifty fifty with both side's having chances to score again. Rovers were digging deep, and Cathal, Mark and Niall were brought in to add some energy to the home team. The game was now end to end and with 5 minute's to go, Cavan got a second, when they scored from close range. Cavan pushed for another, and were awarded a corner in injury time to ensure a nail-biting finish. They floated and excellent cross into the box which was headed goal-ward's straight at Pavel, and Luke smothered the loose ball. Luke kicked long, and the referee blew the final whistle. This victory ensures a tense end to the season, with the Rovers closing in on Cavan Celtic and Cootehill at the top of the table.
