Rovers earn tough away draw

Cootehill Harps 1-1 Carrick Rovers

On Sunday 1st December the 11s travelled to Cootehill to play a very determined and well organised Cootehill team. It was a very cagey start to the game with most of the football being played in the middle third. Early on the Rovers were comfortable at the back with Mark, Conor and Keith not really being troubled. The Rovers midfield of Zach, Nyle, Nathan and Cormac were having to dig deep, but it was 50/50 in the middle. Both defences were on top with very few clear cut chances.

Flynn had Rovers best chance when he shot just wide of the post. Rovers introduced Conor as they attempted to assert themselves on the match but Cootehill soon found themselves in front when they broke from midfield and worked a shot from close range to make it 1-0 to the home side. Pavel picked up an injury and he was replaced by Andrew.

Rovers came out in the second half and immediately set about finding an equalizer. The momentum was now with the Rovers, but Cootehill were looking dangerous on the break. After a good run Nathan was unlucky, with the Cootehill keeper making a good save. Down the other end Luke did well to tip around the post to keep his team in the match. Nathan worked another shot, which the keeper also saved but he made no mistake from the rebound to shoot to the roof of the net. Niall was now introduced as the Rovers looked for a winner. Luke saved again and Rovers just couldn't find a winner. This was a very entertaining match played by two evenly matched teams. These young lads
showed great spirit to grind out a well deserved point. Rovers could have done with one of Dylan McMahon's goals today and we look forward to seeing him in a Rovers shirt again soon, after breaking his arm against
