Rovers hit for 8

Cootehill Harps 8-1 Carrick Rovers Lions
CMUL 14 Championship

Carrick Rovers Lions travelled to Cootehill to play on the new all weather pitch at Clara Lane. Rovers started brightly, with both teams creating opportunities on goal. Cootehill Harps were the first to really threaten opening the scoring only for Breffini Henry to stand strong and beat away a rasping shot from a narrow angle. Cootehill continued to press and despite Breffinis best efforts and numerous saves the flood gates opened and Rovers found themselves 4 nil down heading in at half time.

The second half started much the same, with Rovers restricted to attacking on the counter. Too eager to get the ball into the final third, Rovers were unable to retain possession of the ball for significant periods of the game. Cootehill Harps grabbed a 5th and although Rovers did get a consolation through Michal Stemplewski pushing forward from midfield, their spirit was broken and Rovers allowed their opponents to walk through them too easily and too often. The game finished 8:1 and Rovers can only look forward to their next game for an opportunity to make amends for this harrowing defeat.

Despite the poor result there were some improvements and noteworthy performances, most notably from Jared Wenham at centre back, who despite the mirage of goals, played with desire and commitment to the final whistle.

Final Score: Cootehill Harps 8-1 Carrick Rovers Lions

Team: Breffini Henry, Adam Garvey, Conor O'Rourke, Aaron Kearney, Jared Wenham, Jamie King, Cormac O'Hanlon, Fionnan Cassidy (Captain), Michal Stemplewski, Euan Matthews, Jack Gillick, Dylan Ward
