Carrick Rovers 13's continued where they left off before the Christmas break, with a CMUL League defeat of our neighbours Blayney Rovers. This time the game was played on Rovers new Juvenile home on the Carrick Aces running track pitch.
Rovers started brightly after a couple of recent friendly matches, they were raring to go. The defence of Cathal O'Rourke, Liam Og Murray, Robert McCloskey and Tiernan McCourt formed a strong barrier in front of Killian McNulty in the Rovers goals and formed a great platform for the midfield of Dillon Carolan, Jared Wenham, Jamie King, Eoghan Duffy and Dylan McCahey to probe forward looking to unlock the Blayney defence. Tadhg Callaghan was proving to be the perfect foil for Rovers to play play of, on his own up front. Rovers were playing some outstanding passing football on a playing surface that suited their style of play and opened the scoring through King after some great build-up play involving Wenham, Carolan and McCahey. Carrick doubled the lead before halftime when Carolan finished brillantly to the net.Halftime Carrick Rovers 1-0 Blayney Rovers
The 2nd half followed the same pattern as the 1st with the Carrick defence able to deal with most of the threat that the visitors could throw at them and the Carrick forward unit passing the ball about, using the width of the pitch to create openings. Donnacha Swinburne came on for McNulty in goals and made a few important interceptions. Rhys Jones, Tiernan O'Riordain, Oisin O'Hanlon, Eoghan Finnegan and Bendera were all introduced at different points and slotted into the system with ease. Carolan finished of the scoring after another well worked moved with a fantastic finish past the Blayney keeper.
