Wednesday last saw the finals of the Astro League played in Gortakeegan with a big crowd in attendance to see Celtic and Rovers take on strong opposition Blaney Rovers and Monaghan Utd respectively. Both Carrick Teams didn’t disappoint with two great wins to finish the season on a high.
The night was a great success and tribute must be paid to Paul Clifford and his Refs for their organisation of the league. The league itself is a great stepping stone for our young players leaving Aclint and taking the next steps in their soccer career learning to play as a team, respect for refs and coaches and most of all getting match time.
On the night all players received their League Medals and to everyone’s surprise and delight the Great Johnny Giles was in the crowd. After the presentation our players got a photo opportunity with the living legend, what a souvenir to treasure.
I’d liked to take this opportunity to thank Fionn McCourt and Mark McNulty for their help with the second team, and to all the parents who drove on Saturday morning’s to the matches. Congratulations to both teams for their hard work during the year & looking forward to next season.
