Carrick Rovers comprehensively beat Borora 7-0 in their first game in the shield on a dry, sunny day in Moynalty. There were nervy moments on the bus when only 10 players turned up, but fortunately Borora had only 9 players. Carrick were given plenty of confidence by the encouragement of temporary assistant manager/linesman Minto, who was suspended for the match.
Carrick Rovers 17's Division 1 team were hosts to Skryne Tara on Saturday afternoon. The match was played on the perfect playing surface of the pitch on the Convent Lands. Both sides played out an even first 15 minutes with no clear cut chances of mention. Then the midfield partnership of Donnacha Kindlon and " Minto " started to get on top in the battle in the middle of the field.
The 17’s followed up their battling performance in the cup with a comprehensive win over Borora for the second time this season. With seven players getting on the score sheet and a few more missing their chances, Carrick controlled the game from the kick-off.
Rovers 17 Div 1 team won a merited though hardfought victory over Navan rivals on the Convent Lands on Saturday last in this NEC Cup tie. Bear in mind that Johnstown rolled Rovers over the previous week in Navan and the value of this victory can be measured. It was based on a back 5 siege mentality which simply refused to buckle and when it did once, well into the second half, it was with fierce determination that they went after the victory that they earned.
After last week's 5-3 defeat at home to Park Celtic Summerhill, Carrick had the reverse leg this Saturday. The first half was a tense affair with both teams working hard and playing some nice football but afraid to push on in case they made any mistakes. The first real chance felt to the Park No. 15 who tried to chip Carrick keeper Aiden McMahon but he tipped it over the crossbar for a corner.
Carrick Rovers 17's were trying to put back to back wins together in the league when they entertained Johnstown on the Shercock road on Saturday last.
