U16's finish as runners up in league

Carrick  Rovers 2-1 Kingscourt

Carrick Rovers U16’s finish runners up in the league after a tense 2-1 win over Kingscourt.

Such was the shortage of fit players that Ian Martin who plays for the U13’s was drafted in at the last minute and played an important part in preventing Kingscourt from scoring more than once.

The first half ended scoreless after both teams failed to take advantage of some good scoring opportunities but early in the second half Ryan Mc Eneaney put Kingscourt ahead.  Rovers however maintained the early pressure game they had played all through the second half in an attempt to force Kingscourt into making errors close to their own goal and it paid off, Shane McDaniel took advantage of the keeper’s failure to quickly clear a back pass to level the score.

With ten minutes to go McDaniel struck again to give Rovers a lead which they held onto comfortably.

Team: Andrew O Rourke, Ian Martin, Gary Martin, James Doherty, Colm Conlon, Jonathan Coleman, Killian Clarke, Cillein Corcoran, Adam Donnelly, Shane McDaniel, Adam Waller
