U12's end League campaign with home win

Carrick Rovers 4-1 Trim Celtic

This was our last league game of the 2009/2010 season, we had met Trim earlier in the season and had suffered a heavy defeat, however we were confident of putting up a good challenge on the back of our latest team performances.

Carrick opened well with a few well executed forays into the Trim half. Mark Grimes was put up front from his normal midfield position and this paid off in the 6thminute. Aaron Kent put a through ball to Paul Beagan who was out on the right wing, he played it across into the Trim goal area for Mark Grimes to take it down under pressure and score. This skillful goal got the Carrick lads moving and David Garland sped through the Trim defence to fire a low shot at goal just to have it saved. The game at this stage began to open up and Trim launched some threatening attacks, the Carrick back four played like a well drilled unit and were difficult to get past. Jack Ogle kept his area under control and sent some good long range passes up the wing. Carrick got a free kick on the left hand side of midfield, Jack Kierans sent in a high curling ball into the Trim square, David Garland got the ball under control and put a clever ball past the goalie who was closing him down. Shane Garland was taken down on the 21st minute and scored with a well taken penalty.

Paul Beagan was in top form sending in accurate crosses, Shane Garland received one and only a good save by the Trim goalie denied him a score. A Kevin Lambe and Liam Mc Geough combination sent a long range ball into Shane Garland but the goalie blocked him. David Garland continuously ran at the Trim defence and on the 27th minute got his second goal.

Trim opened the second half with some determined attacks and Aaron Kent saved us when they looked a threat at scoring, Conor Duffy used his height with some headed clearances from Trim’s crosses. David Garland’s running at the Trim defence was causing them problems, on one of these runs he was fouled approx 20 yards from the Trim goal. Jack Kierans took the free but it deflected off the wall and just over the Trim crossbar. The Carrick forwards had the Trim defence under pressure but Trim were coming back with fast counter attacks and one of these paid off for them with a goal resulting. Conor Mc Kenna had a good performance in goals and took off some brave saves.

The last quarter of the game was end to end stuff with good passing football by both teams.

The game ended with a 4-1 win to Carrick.

Overall this was a good team performance due to incorporating a clever passing style into their game.
