Rovers title dream ruined by Rock

Carrick Rovers brave bid to be crowned MDL Premier Division champions came to an end at a resplendent Tom Flynn Park in Bellurgan on Sunday last when they lost out to reigning champions Rock Celtic in a much anticipated title play off.

Coming in to the game on the back of a club record of 8 straight league wins which saw them end the season joint top of the league with Rock, the Monaghan side approached the tie in confident mood but Rock Celtics experience at the business end of the season proved to be a major factor in the outcome of the game as for Rovers young side it was a game in which the size of the occasion seemed to have a negative effect on a number of their players who did not reach the level of performance needed on the day.

A Note From The Chairman, Art Agnew

This is a wonderful day for the club. Enda Tourish’s side have won their last eight games in succession, beating the club record which stood at seven. They have been playing great football and at Bellurgan on Sunday the 23rd May at 6.30 they hope to take the premier crown. Teams from Meath, Louth, Westmeath, Cavan and Monaghan make up the league so it is a fiercely contested competition. The side that wins are worthy champions. Rovers last won the league in 1998. This panel is as good as any that represented the club. Rovers love playing in Bellurgan, great surface, great atmosphere and great soccer people.

Join us there and cheer on the team.

Rovers motto is “ In the community for the community”.

Lets give them our full support of the community.
