Carrick Rovers 2 Navan Town 1
It was a beautiful Saturday morning on the Shercock road pitch and Carrick U14's were in buoyant mood for the visit of Navan Town after last weeks win over Borora. The game started very tentitively with both teams defence having a strong say in the match.
With ten minutes gone Rovers started to get in behind the Navan Town defence and went close to opening their account with a Chris Rice volley, unfortunately this was blocked by the Navan Town No 3, and the keeper then got down well to palm the ball around the post from a shot of Alan McCahey. On the twenty fifth minute Rovers were one down when the defence was caught out by the Navan Town keepers kick out and their no 11 ran on to the ball, his shot was parried by David Easkin on to the post only for the Navan Town no 16 to tap in the rebound.
In the second half Rovers took control off the match and battered the Navan Town goal looking to level the game and they got the breakthrough on fifty minutes when Saul Carolan raced on to a Ferdia Holland pass and rifled his shot by the Navan Town keeper from 18 yards. Rovers went looking for the winner and it looked like Navan Town were going to collect a point for their efforts, however Oisin Mc Donnell broke the Navan Town hearts with a thunderous volley which was laid on by James Lambe with only five minute to go. This was a great team performance and a deserving win.
